Dr. Brian Shumate joined McPherson & Jacobson in 2023.
Dr. Brian Shumate has served the Troup County School System as Superintendent since July 2019. Upon his arrival, he thoroughly evaluated the system and set forth a vision for it to become ‘A Place for Every Kid’ where students find connections, meaning and understanding with their daily school experience, teachers, and peers. He believes that every student should be affiliated and known for their strengths, aptitudes and interests so that their school experience is meaningful and relevant.
Prior to his arrival in Troup County, he served as the Superintendent of the Medford School District in Medford, Oregon from 2014-2019. He previously served as one of six regional K-12 Assistant Superintendents for the Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville, Kentucky. In Jefferson County, he was also a high school mathematics teacher, head coach, high school assistant principal, high school principal and high school liaison. Dr. Shumate received a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Louisville.
Dr. Shumate has served in a variety of leadership roles in professional and civic organizations including part time professor at the University of Louisville College of Education and Human Development, board member at West Georgia Technical College, and board member in a variety of community and civic organizations in Louisville, Kentucky, Medford, Oregon and Troup County, Georgia.
