Dr. Dennis Peterson
Dr. Dennis Peterson joined McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C. in 2024. Dr. Peterson retired in 2022 after serving over 50 years as superintendent in Minnesota, Ohio, Missouri, Wyoming, and South Dakota school districts.
Among the honors Dr. Peterson has received are South Dakota Superintendent of the Year in 1985; Minnesota Superintendent of the Year in 2009; ERDI Superintendent of the Year 2007; Named as the “Builder of Legacy Impact Hall of Fame” award recipient by HumaneX in 2020; selected as one of 100 Top Administrators in America by the NSBA magazine in 1986; awarded the Finis Engleman AASA-Education Industries scholarship by AASA in1974; Doctoral Thesis honored by the National School Finance Association as the Outstanding Thesis in School Finance for 1975.
Dr. Peterson’s memberships have included one year as an AASA-NASE Executive Assistant, South Dakota President of SASD (umbrella association for Superintendents, Principals and other Educational professionals, Chair of the Ohio organization for Education and Equity, member of ERDI (Educational Research and Development Institute) for 23 years, member of Midwest Suburban Superintendents and Executive Committee member for 33 years, and numerous committees in the superintendent organizations for South Dakota, Wyoming, Missouri, Ohio and Minnesota.
Dr. Peterson has degrees from the University of Colorado, Stanford University , and the University of South Dakota,.
Dr. Peterson has been active in legislative work doing Extensive legislative work with associations and legislators in South Dakota, Minnesota, Wyoming, Missouri and Ohio. In South Dakota he created the entire school finance and school tax system for South Dakota in 1985, which was enacted by the State in 1986; and he created the finance model for post-secondary vocational schools in South Dakota in 1986.
