Dr. John Gratto joined McPherson & Jacobson in 2014. He served 23 years as a Superintendent
of Schools in districts ranging from 450 to 4500 students, four years as a K-12 principal, two
years as a K-6 principal, and one year as an Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and
Instruction prior to assuming his current position as an Assistant Professor of the Educational
Leadership at Virginia Tech in August of 2012.
He currently teaches graduate classes in Virginia Tech’s principal preparation program particularly Curriculum and Instruction, Personnel Administration, Community Engagement, and Leadership and Change. He also teaches Administration of Instructional Programs and Theories of Educational Administration in Virginia Tech’s doctoral program in Educational Leadership in addition to supervising teachers who are interning as principals.
He earned his Ed.D. in Education Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University.
He has authored a number of articles around the topics of helping teachers and principals to be successful, Board of Education/superintendent relationships, wellness actions for administrators, and strategies to gain support for school budgets.
Dr. Gratto has also served in State and local leadership roles as a Member of the New York State Education Commissioner’s Advisory Council, a Blue Ribbon School Review Panelist for New York State Elementary Schools, President of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference, and Executive Secretary of the Essex County School Boards Association.← Back to list of consultants
