Dr. John Sugiyama joined McPherson & Jacobson in 2017. He retired as Superintendent of the Emery Unified School District in Alameda County, California in 2011 after serving 38 years in education including Superintendent of the Dublin Unified School District in Dublin, CA for ten years.  John’s career included positions as a school psychologist, Director of Special Education, Chief Personnel Officer, and Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.  He also taught teaching credential candidates at JFK University in Pleasant Hill, California.

John currently serves as a consultant for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and has chaired over 100 accreditation teams visiting schools in Asia, Hawaii, and California.

Dr. Sugiyama received ACSA’s Marcus Foster Award for Visionary Leadership in 2006.

John was born and raised in San Francisco and has a Bachelors in Psychology from San Francisco State University, a Masters of Arts in Educational Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley, and an Ed. D. in Organizational Leadership from the University of La Verne.
