Dr. Patrick O’Toole joined McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C. in 2021.
Following a career in public education that spanned 39 years, Dr. O’Toole, retired as superintendent of the Upper St. Clair School District (PA) on June 30, 2018. During the 2020-21 school year, he also served as Acting Superintendent for the North Allegheny School District (PA).
Dr. O’Toole served as Upper St. Clair’s superintendent of schools from 2007 to 2018. Upper St. Clair School District garnered national praise for several innovative programs initiated under his leadership.
In addition to his duties as superintendent, Dr. O’Toole served as president of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators during 2016-17; and president of Tri-State Area School Study Council at the University of Pittsburgh from 2013 through 2015.
Prior to Upper St. Clair, Dr. O’Toole served as superintendent in the South Butler County (2004 to 2007) and Shenango Area (2000 to 2004) school districts. He also served as a high school principal, associate high school principal and elementary teacher.
A graduate of Clarion University, Dr. O’Toole holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. He earned a master’s degree in educational administration (1988) and a doctorate in administration and policy studies (1996) from the University of Pittsburgh.
The Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators honored him with the 2010 Service to the Professional Award and named him the 2012 Pennsylvania Superintendent of the Year. Also in 2012, he received the Distinguished Educator Award from the Tri-State Area School Study Council.
Since 2018, Dr. O’Toole has assisted districts with executive searches, leadership development, and financial recovery as the founder and consultant for School Assist Consulting, LLC.
