Mr. Edward Velasquez joined McPherson & Jacobson in 2014. Over the past 38 years, he has been committed to ensuring young people receive a quality education and remain focused on achieving their goals. As a dedicated professional, he has 38 years of experience in education as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, associate superintendent, and superintendent.
Mr. Velasquez became a teacher in 1978 for Montebello Unified School District in Montebello, California. During his tenure at MUSD, Mr. Velasquez has served as an elementary and middle school teacher, an intermediate assistant principal and principal and in 1998 he was appointed associate superintendent working directly alongside the District’s Superintendent carrying out the directives of the MUSD Board of Education. In January 2004, Mr. Velasquez was appointed as Interim Superintendent. In July 2004, Mr. Velasquez was appointed Superintendent.
In July of 2010 Mr. Velasquez was appointed Superintendent of Schools for the Lynwood Unified School District in Lynwood, California. He has also worked as an adjunct professor at California State University at Los Angeles. Mr. Velasquez was also the District’s POST Certified Chief of School Police, appointed by the Board of Education in January 2006.
Mr. Velasquez has also been involved with numerous committees and task forces including the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Urban Education Committee, State of California Safe Schools Task Force, and the L.A. County Safe School Task Force. Mr. Velasquez has received the Humanitarian of the Year award from the Board of Directors and Advisory Council of the Rio Hondo Boys and Girls Club.
