Dr. Patrick Murphy joined McPherson & Jacobson in 2022.

Dr. Murphy is a native of Washington DC Metropolitan region and an experienced educator with over 34 years working in large and mid-size suburban and small urban schools in Virginia and West Virginia. He has a broad spectrum of experiences as a teacher, coach, activities director, school principal, assistant superintendent, superintendent, and adjunct professor. Dr. Murphy received his bachelor’s degree from James Madison University and his master’s and education doctoral degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Dr. Murphy was selected as the 2015 Superintendent of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents and as a finalist for 2015 National Superintendent of the Year by AASA. Dr. Murphy was also the recipient of the following awards and honors from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) for the Bob Grossman Leadership in School Communications, Aspen Institute Fellowship for Community College Excellence, James Madison University College of Education Distinguished Alumni, and the Arlington NAACP’s Willard W. Brittain Community Appreciation Award. In addition, under his leadership as superintendent of Arlington Public Schools earned the Medallion of Excellence from Virginia’s U.S. Senate Productivity Award program, based on Baldrige criteria, and Arlington’s priority for continuous improvement and innovation.
