Mr. Robert Copeland joined McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C. in 2022.

Mr. Copeland recently retired as  Superintendent in the Lower Merion School District in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, a position he took up following over a dozen years’ experience as Superintendent at Piscataway Township Schools (New Jersey) and the Neshaminy School District in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. Mr. Copeland’s previous administrative experience includes service as Assistant Superintendent in Newark, New Jersey the state’s largest school district and in Teaneck Township New Jersey, as Principal in the Lawrence Township School District, and as Personnel Administrator and Assistant Principal in the Princeton Regional Schools. He began his career as a social studies teacher and curriculum coordinator at the John Witherspoon Middle School in Princeton, New Jersey.

Mr. Copeland has served on task forces and spoken on the use of research and data in decision-making; on strategic planning, administrative accountability, and the effective use of resources; and on best practices to eliminate the achievement gap.  Mr. Copeland also has extensive experience in public finance and school construction.   He has a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Brockport and a master’s degree from Rider College in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Mr. Copeland has served on the Advisory Committee and the Publication Review Board of the American Association of School Administrators, the Superintendent’s Advisory Board at the Educational Testing Service, and in leadership positions at numerous other professional organizations. He has been New Jersey State Superintendent of the Year, has received the Leadership in Public Education Award from the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators, and also received an Outstanding Leadership Award from the Organization of African American Administrators.
